Installation of a Dead Pedal

WARNING: This page is still a work in progress!

I am not responsible for any problems you experience as a result of trying to do anything described here. The hack documented here worked fine for me but may not work for you far any number of reasons.

Here's a quick an easy addition to an old 911. My Boxster has a dead pedal and I find it very handy. It's a convenient place to put your left foot on the highway and it's a good place to press against when getting into a racing seat.

I picked up a dead pedal for my series of 911 from Performance Products part# FR-900 for about $45 (yeah, I know, that's an awful lot of money for a little piece of metal). They call it a "foot rest" in their catalog.

Before you start you're going to need a couple items:

The installation was very easy. Jack up the left side of the car. Remove the left front wheel. Align the new pedal on the floor so the parts with the holes are flat against the carpeting. Carefully drill holes through the carpeting and metal(?) behind it into the wheel well. Use the supplied hardware to attach it. Make it nice and tight. Afterwards I used some spray on undercoating to cover the bolts sticking out into the wheel well to make them both corrosion resistant and less obvious.

Pedals before. Yeah, that's a wood block on my accelerator pedal put on by the previous owner.

Wheel well after. I made sure the tires didn't come close to rubbing against the bolts.
