Greg's Dark Blue 911

Blackhawk Farms Raceway - August 16, 2000

We just can't seem to get enough of Blackhawk, rough pavement and all. Once again this evenat at Blackhawk Farms Raceway was sponsored by PCA Chicago Region. Another perfect day and since the forecast this time did call for perfection, it seemed like everybody showed up on this fine Wednesday. Don't people have jobs!?!?

I came to this event with the goal of breaking a 1:30 lap time. I just wish I set a loftier goal as I just barely broke it with a 1:29.96 best lap time. Most of my few traffic free laps were just over 1:30. I know I still have a lot of areas I can improve. I'm still going into turn 1 too slow, I can probably go into the carousel a little faster, same with turn 6 and finally my downshift could be smoother in turn 7. Oh dear, I do have a lot to work on!

The huge turnout at the drivers meeting.

And the crowded pit lane once the event started.

Close-up shot of wheels and calipers.

Jason putting numbers on with tape after his magnetic ones blew off during the warmup session.

There was another Lotus Elise at the track this time. This one was a really cool yellow color. The owner told us all about it. It sounds absolutely perfect as a track car. If only it was street legal so I wouldn't have to tow it in!! There were some cool looking Porsches there too. 8^)

That's a great color for a Lotus Elise!

It has a plate but never sees the street.

About to go make some noise on the track.

This color really gets your attention.

Ferdi's 993 Twin Turbo was one of several at this event.

A row of silver 911s.

But of course our cars were the coolest!

Since we only had one session in the morning I spent some time taking pictures of the advanced group. If your see your car here drop me a line.

Kevin giving his new motor a proper break-in.

Is that a Lexus passing a Boxster?

The loud Super Cup car.

Ron's really moving in his Boxster.

The bright yellow 968 with Tony behind the wheel.

A bright yellow 996 Cab.

I always try to take some in car video when I'm at a track. I find it very helpful to review some video before I return to the track to remind myself what the layout of the track was like and remind myself what areas I need to work on. This time I also took some screen shots of some of the better pictures from the in car video. I also used my new Canon ZR10 camcorder instead of the Canon Optura for the in car video. This made it easier for me so I could just leave the ZR10 attached to the car and used the Optura to walk around and take some stills.

One of the many oopsies that happened mostly near the end of the day.

Another oopsy in turn 7.

Kind of hard to see but those are flames coming out of that 930.

Lined up behind the C4S I will find myself chasing and trying to pass nearly the entire session.
More video of me taking a lap around blackhawk. This was one of my faster laps. You can see that I'm starting to go a bit faster if you compare this to one of my older videos.
QuickTime Movie - Approx. 5.8M
RealVideo - 56K modem or faster stream (1 minute 36 seconds)

Jason's friend Steve joined us at this event with his black Boxster. He also just got a new Sony Digital Camcorder and here are some of his pictures from the event. He got a lot of good action shots plus some of the rare shots of my car on the track. Thanks Steve!!!

That cool Robin Egg Blue colored 993.

Jason on the gas between turns 4 and 5.

This is Jason again braking before turn 7.

A bit of traffic going into turn 5.

There's me approaching turn 5.

Looks like me again coming through turn 3A.

The Lotus Elise in action.

One of the highlights of this event was a photo shoot! We heard that photographers and models were on-site to shoot some photos for an upcoming Tweeks catalog. After the track was closed for the day the Tweeks people set up two cars for what looked like a mock drag race photo. Strangely, Jeremy and Jason were spending a whole lot of time debating whether the male or female model was "pretier". Hmmm.. Judge for yourself.

The cars, model and camera people shooting some pictures.

The model getting her hair done.

Jason and Stephen getting a closer look.

Another shot of the model.

Yet another shot for Jason.

Lucky Brandon gets to be in the shoot.

Both models taking a break. Which one do YOU think is pretier?

Before leaving for home we stopped for gas. Jeremy thought it was very cool to see this many Porsches at once at a gas station.
I see seven Porsches. There were probably a couple others outside of this view.
