Potsdamer Platz

Potsdamer Platz is an area of the city that was once one of the widest section of Berlin Wall. After it was torn down there was a lot of land in the middle of the city ripe for redevelopment. Since this was a large plot of land it attracted large projects. The two largest developments in the area are being done by DaimlerChrysler and Sony. The developments currently contain a mixture of shopping, a multi-plex including an IMAX theatre, office space and apartments.

In the middle of the contruction zone is a big red box on stilts called the InfoBox. This box has information about the developments in the area as well as general tourist info. I climbed to the top of the box for a nice panoramic view of the city. The InfoBox even has it's own web site.

Right next to it was supposedly the first traffic light in Europe.

Lots of construction. Most of what you see here is the DaimlerChrysler development.
The DaimlerChrysler development has typical modern German architecture.
No development would be complete without public modern art.

This is the Sony Center. Most of it is hidden behind the tower.

Balloon rides were being offerred nearby.
