The Gang

We spent the entire two weeks in Egypt as a group. There were only 10 of us so it was a very small manageable group. Ten is a perfect group size, otherwise I wouldn't be able to arrange all our pictures into a perfect pyramid.

Aboard the Blue Waves

The M/V Tala was not yet out of dry dock but the operator Red Sea Explorers were able to get a replacement boat on short notice. Unfortunately the first boat we got wasn't great, but it was a boat. We used that boat to dive the first day then returned to port and switched to the Blue Waves.

The Blue Waves was a much larger boat with state rooms below as well as two above the galley. There was also adequate outdoor space but since it was so cold during most of the trip we didn't make much use of them.

The best part about the boat was the crew. The chef always made very tasty and artfully arranged meals. The food was usually Egyptian and always delicious. The crew also fished at times and they caught a couple fish which we would have that night for dinner.

The weather on the Red Sea at the end of January and early February was surprisingly cold. Temperatures at night got down into the 50s and daytime temps some days barely got out of the 60s. Not exactly comfortable diving weather but at least the water was warmer than the air.

The Blue Waves while we were still on the first boat.

The galley was great for lounging, and staying warm.

It tastes even better than it looks.

Matt can't wait to dive in.

Camera table area was limited to these small counters but there were charging cubbies above them.

The sun deck for lounging.

...and sleeping.

Those slippers are so stylish.

Lily, Michelle and Carmen still wet after a dive.

Dolphins occasionally joined the boat.

Watching Dolphins on the bow.

The crew were also talented musicians. This guitar was made from a stool.

Mohammad and Mohal entertained us.

Tuna, it's what's going to be for dinner.

Foad giving the dive briefing.

Lily and Melanie staying warm in the surprisingly cold Egyptian sun.

Most of the sites were coral heads miles off shore that barely reach the surface.

Just about the only living vegetation was on this sand bar.

Back at shore it's just sand.

I am LOVING your pyramid! I have really enjoyed looking at your site and reading all your commentary. It's nice to see the trip through someone else's eyes! Thanks!

Next: The real reason we came all this way is to dive the Red Sea.
