Rebuilding my worn out motor plus brakes!
This is less of a hack rather than documentation on the stuff I've done to the car in early 2001. At the end of the 2000 season it was obvious something was wrong with my car. With only 107,000 miles it was definitely losing power and burning more and more oil.

To make a long story short the motor ended up getting rebuilt and while the motor was out a couple "tweaks" were made for better performance. This dyno chart of a similar motor that had the same upgrades as mine showing the motor with and without the MAF. The only thing my car lacks are the older headers. The lines labeled C_TQ are torque and CPOWER is HP. The solid line is with the MAF.

Note that this dyno chart shows peak power of 273.84 HP @ 6000 compared to the peak HP of 217 with the stock motor. I don't know if I feel that much increase but it's definitely a lot faster than it was before. The sound of the agressive cams is also wonderful!

In case you were wondering what the heck I was going to do with all those old parts. Well, the first thing I did is convert cylinder 4 to this lovely pen and pencil holder for my office.

I still don't know what to do with the rest of the stuff, especially the pistons. When I figure out some use for them I'll post my idea here.

Once the motor was back in shape my brakes needed some attention. At one track event my front calipers seized and with Road America coming up a couple weeks later I started to look at upgrades.

I eventually settled upon an upgrade using 993 rear calipers on the front of my 911. The nice thing is that the rotor stays the same. The advantage is a slightly larger pad area but most of all 4 piston calipers!!! The braking pressure required was a little greater but the stopping power was great and more consistent. At Road America I noticed that the severe vibrations during hard braking was completely gone!
