Greg's Dark Blue 911

Gingerman Raceway - July 20, 1999

This was a Lapping Days event sponsored by RacePartners, Inc. The weather was perfect and the turnout was low, so there was tons of track time with no traffic. I used my Hotlap for the first time. I really like it. I was able to fine tune my line and see how my time changed after each lap. I turned out the Velcro alone wasn't enough to hold it tight. I had to zip tie it to a bracked under the dash to make it stay put through hard cornering.

The car worked fine, felt fast, and handled REALLY well. I did manage to tie my best lap time in my stock 1999 Boxster, but I wasn't able to beat it. The 911 is considerably more difficult to drive on the track than the Boxster and I know that I'm the weak link here, not the car.

The car was very reliable on the track, but on the way home my brakes were spongy and my left front wheel has a lot of play in it. Obviously the wheel bearings are now shot.

My lap times were mostly between 1:51 and 1:54, with my best recorded lap being 1:51.40. This is nearly identical to my best lap time when I was here with my Boxster.

Another shot.

Another 911 at the track. This one is a 1971 911.

Another 911 at the track. This one is a 1967 912.

This one is a track ready 1985 911. I checked it out to see what modifications I want to make to mine.

Checking out the exhaust modifications. Look ma, no heat exchangers.

I want to add these cooling ducts to my car.

This was a cool Detomaso Pantera GTS.

The trunk pulls out to reveal the engine and transaxle.

This VR6 Golf was being evaluated by some on-line magazine.
Here is a video of me taking a lap around Gingerman in the 911. Please, no comments about me not being on the right line. 8^)

DOH!

My friend John had a wheel fall off his VW Corrado VR6 as he was in corner 5.

The hub broke off the spindle and sheared off the brake rotor. Surprisingly we managed to find a shop in the area that had a used hub and rotor and John fixed it and ended up driving home on it!

Here is the inside of the wheel with part of the rotor still attached.
Here is some video of me seeing John's Corrado off the track. As I drive up you can see John and some other guy rolling the wheel back to the car.
