Potsdamer Platz is an area of the city that was once one of the widest section
of Berlin Wall. After it was torn down there was a lot of land in the middle
of the city ripe for redevelopment. Since this was a large plot of land it
attracted large projects. The two largest developments in the area are
being done by DaimlerChrysler and Sony. The developments currently contain
a mixture of shopping, a multi-plex including an IMAX theatre, office space
and apartments.
In the middle of the contruction zone is a big red box on stilts called
the InfoBox. This box has information about the developments in the
area as well as general tourist info. I climbed to the top of the box for
a nice panoramic view of the city. The InfoBox even has it's own
web site.
