Powderhorn Mountain Big Powderhorn Mountain : Bessemer, Michigan : Trip Report

Big Powderhorn Mountain

Our second day we crossed the border into Michigan and visited Big Powderhorn. It was only a few days into the season and already all but two of the runs were open. The two closed runs had snow making equipment going full blast the whole day. The crowds once again were very light so there was plenty of room.

We spent most of our time on the intermediate blue runs as we found those to be easier than the too flat beginner runs. One thing that was a little annoying was the long flat areas between the drops. We had to be careful to gather enough speed to make it across the whole flat area to the next dropoff.

There was one run we liked that had a black diamond section called the Double Barrel. We decided to give it a try since it was pretty empty. Lily called it a day after going down once. Mark and I gave it three tries never quite making it down without at least a couple specacular falls.

Here's a quick clip taken using the goofy video feature of my camera. This is of Lily nearly doing a low speed Sonny Bono.
