Innsbruck, Austria : Trip Report

Reference Library

I didn't use that many books to help plan the trip but the ones below are the few that I did find useful. I hope you find them as useful as I did. I also included several links below to websites mentioned elsewhere on this web site as well as other links to histrical information about the sites I discussed.

Articles

Ski Magazine : Europe For Less
This article by Everett Potter was in the October 2002 issue of Ski Magazine. I was interviewed for this article about my experiences snowboarding in Europe.

Fodor's Austria Where to Stay, Eat, and Explore
One of the popular guides that are consistently good and complete. Descriptions of the sites were very helpful.

Lonely Planet Austria 2nd Edition
Another typically excellent travel guide. This one made the rounds around our group and everyone thought it was great.

Web Sites

Ski-Europe.com
This is the travel agency we used to book the trip. They specialize in ski trips to Europe so these guys know the areas and can tune the trip to meet you needs. HIGHLY recommended!
Hotel Grauer Bär
Website for the Hotel Grauer Bär (Gray Bear) where we stayed in Innsbruck. It's a very nice 4* hotel with a great restaurant.
Salzburg Province
A website with some background information on Salzburg. Very brief but to the point.
Salzburg Travel
More travel information about Salzburg, including information about the sites, hotels, tours, etc.
Official Website of Venetia (Venice)
Very complete website (in English) with historical information and a wealth of information about all the sites as well as shopping information.
Venetian Tourism Board
Another very comprehensive web site about tourism in Venice. This site is both in Italian and English. The most useful thing here is a comprehensive search engine of events, accomodations, etc.
Venetian Carnival Masks
Entertaining site about the history of Carnival Masks in Venice. If you travel to Venice during that time this is a must read. It will explain a lot.
Stubai Glacier
Official Website of Stubaier Gletcher (Stubai Glacier). Information is in German, English and Italian. Includes current conditions, weather and list ticket prices. Lots of good info here include a live webcam.
Maporama
This is the European equivalent of Yahoo! Maps or Mapquest. It has maps and driving/walking directions for pretty much all of Europe. This is an extremely useful site when planning a trip to Europe.
CNN.com Ski Report for Austria
This is one of the few sites that has accurate ski conditions for Austria AND is in English.
Kaiserliche Hofburg zu Innsbruck
This website about Hofburg - The Imperial Residence in Innsbruck has more background information about this palace in both German and English.
Ludwig's Castles
More information about King Ludwig II of Bavaria and his castles, including information about Neuschwanstein. Great pictures here including original ideas and an awful lot of detail about the construction.

That's It! Go back to the Home Page.
