Vail Mountain : Vail, Colorado : Trip Report

Second day at Vail Mountain

Lily now equipped with a new snowboard she bought off of Ted, who picked it up cheap at a local sporting good store was ready to go again. Ted, a former snowboard instructor at Beaver Creek, joined us for most of the day and gave us a private tour of Vail Mountail.

Our second day at Vail Mountain we had no fresh snow but the runs were nicely groomed. This time our new buddy Ted helped us work our way across the massive Vail mountain towards the back bowls. We went towards the Big Sky Bowl and ran Pete's Bowl. That pretty much took all morning.

We had lunch at Two Elk's which was a huge restaurant with decent food. After lunch we found a large bronze Elk where we continued a tradition that we began in Snowbasin near Park City, Utah. Unfortunately, Two Elks was very difficult to get to and almost as difficult to get back from. Yes, there were green runs but as snowboarders we hate those flat green catwalks.

We looked long and hard for any leftover powder from yesterday but we only found one run with a little powder along the side. We did have some fun with tree runs but they weren't as good as Aspen. There are fewer places with trees far enough apart to ride among and when we found them they were already deep with ruts from previous riders. Bummer.
