We spent most of our trip on the island of Phuket staying at a house in the Laguna Waters subdivision in Northwestern Phuket. There were several really nice resorts a short shuttle ride away so we spent a lot of time there as well.

While on Phuket we took a all day tour of the island, went scuba diving at some nearby islands, ocean kayaked at some other islands were we went through caves to visit some hidden parts of the islands, saw the Fantasea Thai culture show and otherwise just relaxed and enjoyed the weather.

Laguna Area

The house we stayed at in Phuket was in the Laguna area. This area includes several VERY nice hotels and resorts and was a great base. The Banyan Tree hotel was amazing and had great food. The Dusit Thani is also amazing and where we attended the New Years Eve Beach Party.

Phuket FantaSea

The Phuket FantaSea is a theme park that features a "cultural show". We opted out of the buffet dinner since we planned to eat at the Banyan Tree that night and we also weren't thrilled to share a buffet dinner with 3000 other people.

Even without the dinner we were told to arrive an hour early as there is a lot to do before the show. The highlights were the carnival games. They were pretty pricey but our kids won a ton of stuff. The highlight for me was shooting a pellet gun at balloons. No way would that be allowed in the USA and I feel sorry for the attendant who had to dodge pellets while working the game. They also had Elephant rides and lots of photo ops before the show with the performers or my kids' favorite, a Tiger cub!
