Having gone to arguably one of the less depressing zoos we thought we'd see more wildlife in a more natural habitat.

It was super hot again, well into the 90's. We were told that the best route is to do the Bobcat Boardwalk close to the welcome center and then continue on the main trail. That turned out to be a bad idea because we got attacked by mosquitoes. The kids almost gave up but the welcome center gave us some pads to help with the itch and we bought repellent at the store. Then we got the idea to rent bikes which turned out to be a GREAT idea. Not only was it more comfortable since you have a bit of a breeze as you ride but the mosquitos can't catch you.

We enjoyed the various birds but the Alligator sightings were pretty rare. I think because of the heat they stayed hidden in the water and among the vegetation mostly. Last time we were here was in the winter on a relatively cool day so several Alligators were out sunning themselves on the path.

Previous visit: 2004.
