“Is that in Puerto Rican Dollars?”

We stayed at the Gran Meliá Resort about 16 miles east of San Juan. The resort had mostly good but some concerning reviews on TripAdvisor but we found it was fine for the most part. The property was mostly well kept and a very large footprint. They had stretch golf carts to move people around. Our bungalow was about as far from the lobby as you could be and it was about 4/10 of a mile away. It's a pleasant walk but when carrying stuff wasn't always fun so we would catch a ride when possible.

The one thing is that food at the resort is extremely expensive. There is a small convenience store near the lobby that has almost reasonably priced snacks and coffee. For the most part we tried to eat off the property. There was a small bakery not far away that had decent and very cheap food.

A couple miles east of the resort is Playa Luquillo which is mostly a locals beach and out front is a long row of "kiosks" which are mostly food vendors. Thinking we could find a decent cheap meal there we were mostly disappointed. The food either didn't look very good and/or was very expensive. The one exception is Parrillo at the west end of the strip which serves amazing grilled Lobster and I've heard the steak was good too.
