We planned to visit the nearby island of Culebra where we here one of the top 3 beaches in the WORLD can be found. We got up early and headed to the ferry terminal in Fejardo for the 45 minute or so ferry ride. Unfortunately when we got there we were informed they could sell us a ticket to get there but the return tickets were sold out for the day.

After considering our options we found out there is a ferry to the island of Vieques leaving just 30 minutes later and that it too has unspoiled beaches. We bought our tickets and rode over.

Once there a row of vans was waiting to transport tourists wherever they wanted to go for what seemed like an exorbitant price ($10/person round trip to Caracas Beach). We get there only to find that it really is quite remote and there are NO services of any kind anywhere near the beach so we were lucky we brought at least some snorkeling gear and energy bars and other snacks and a couple bottles of water. We planned to stay for only 3-4 hours and then head back to the terminal and try to find some dinner nearby.

The snorkeling was ok, not great. The beach has a gorgeous white sand and the water is crystal clear so the kids had a great time. It was really hot and we ran out of water so Vince started to try to get some coconuts down from a nearby tree for the milk inside. We eventually got three down after a lot of work.
