Our third stop on the cruise was the tiny Gold Rush town of Skagway. The downtown area is a National Park so it's kept looking kinda how it looked in the late 1800's.

Here we had our busiest day, with Rock Climbing and Rapelling in the morning, a short break for lunch and then Ziplining with Grizzly Falls Ziplining Expedition in the afternoon. What a day!!!

First we did Rock Climbing and Repelling through the ship which was fine. Once we got the mandatory helmets we walked to the wall, which they called the Alaskan Cheese Grater. We were then outfitted with climbing shoes which were amazing. They allowed us to hang on to tiniest edge of rock which would otherwise have been impossible. The rock face had a wide variety of paths from short to long, from easy to hard with overhangs.

Giselle was doing great but would stop when she saw a big spider on the rocks. Jasmine did great, she was very comfortable on the rocks. I did an easy run first which I found too easy so I asked for something harder. It was a LOT harder. I got to a point where I spent a long time trying to find a path to the last few feet of the climb but couldn't find a path. My arms were also starting to shake from hanging on so I bailed.

After everybody got their two runs up the face we walked around the back of the mountain and did the repelling part which was just simply going down. It was VERY high up and those afraid of hights had a REALLY hard time getting started. Once you were going it wasn't hard at all but that first step was a doozy.

Grizzy Falls Ziplining

This is the only excursion during the cruise which I booked separately. We had plenty of time at Skagway but due to limited scheduling I wasn't able to book it all through the ship. I fortunately found this outfit which had a lot more options available and they assured me I'd still be back in plenty of time to the ship. Howard was a little nervous since we would be back around 7:15 and we had 7:30 dinner reservations. We did make it!

Anyway, they met us at the end of the pier and we boarded a bus for a long but very scenic drive to the site. At the site we waited for the Unimog to take us to the top of the mountain. While we waited we checked out the Alaskan Husky puppies and watched Salmon struggle up the very small stream while a pair of Bald Eagles circled high overhead.

This place is known for two things, 11 amazing zip lines in total (include the 2 "training" lines" and that they use a double-harness so they allow, no, encourage, zip lining upside down, spinning, etc. It was a blast once we got the hang of it, which took about two zip lines. Smiles all around.
