Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie is just one of the checkpoints after World War II where you could pass from the American sector of Berlin to the Russian sector. This particular checkpoint was made famous by a stand-off between Russian and American tanks shortly after the wall came up. Very little of the wall remains and the checkpoint itself was mostly dismantled and parts were moved to a couple museums that are now near the old checkpoint.

Like many other parts of Berlin this area that was previously a checkpoint through the Berlin Wall is now the site of a great deal of new construction. I also walked around and took some other pictures of stuff in the area.
