Berlin, Germany : Trip Report
|
The park itself is quite large containing a mixture of wooded and grassy areas as well as several small lakes. One of the main streets through the park leads to Brandenburg Gate.

Photos #8 and #10 are of the Russian War Memorial, actually in the former West Berlin. The tanks at either side of the memorial are supposed to be the first two tanks to enter Berlin in 1945, not the Nazi feared Russian T-34 tank which was much larger.

My husband and I were in Berlin before the Wall came down visiting our exchange student and her family. Her dad was old enough to remember W W II and was a very good guide. The picture you have with the comment that it wasn't in the guide books is of a Russian War Memorial. There were Russian guards posted when we were there - 2 standing at the back of the space and 2 more with very large dogs and rifles marching back and forth along the sidewalk. When Wolf slowed the car so I could take a picture of the Memorial, the dogs became very agitated and the soldiers motioned for us to continue. We were most happy to oblige them.
