After lunch we drove around St. Petersburg again and eventually ended up on the Peter and Paul Fortress. It's located on a small island near where the river splits. The fortress was surrounded by grassy and sandy areas filled with sunbathers. This was only the second warm day of the summer so local residents were out in droves getting some sun.

The middle of the fortress contains a cathedral where the Czars were buried. The other highlight of this cathedral is that it is also the tallest building in St. Petersburg to this day. The only structure taller is the TV antenna.

The church was nice and there were several other exhibits such as the mint on site, which we didn't check out. Once again the cathedral was not air conditioned and it was hot and crowded so my wife didn't want to stick around very long.
