Shore Excursion to Isla Lobos

Our first shore excursion in the Galapagos. It was originally supposed to be on Isla Santa Cruz but due to some civil unrest there we had to re-route to this island instead. The unrest was due to local fisherman blocking the roads in protest of the quotas on Sea Cucumbers. Apparently even though the waters around the Galapagos are a marine reserve they still allow local fisherman to catch some amount of fish.

So here we are at Isla Lobos, a tiny island off the west coast of Isla San Cristobal. This was a great place to see some of the endemic plants as well as see Sea Lions up close and personal plus get our first look at Blue Footed Boobies. There were several young Sea Lions on this island which were cute and curious. We also saw some of the Sally Lightfoot Crabs but these were all babies and extra paranoid so we never got a close look. We also saw several of the 13 varieties of Finches on the islands as well as our first look at Frigate Birds.
