Whistler and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada : Trip Report
|
Current weather in Whistler, British Columbia: |
We quickly found out why. Separately, Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain are no bigger than other resorts I've been to but since they are all one resort it puts them ahead of other resorts. Add to it the nicest village of any resort I've seen by far and you have an unbeatable combination.
After three days on the slopes we retired to Vancouver where we spent some time exploring the city. We spent most of the time in the fabulous Stanley Park but we also paid a short visits to Chinatown and Granville Island.
Where both mountains meet there is the large and quaint Whistler Village. Condos, shops and restaurants, oh my. We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn which is actually right on Blackcomb Mountain. Viewed: 2,027 times.
Our first day was spent on Whistler Mountain, which Melanie considers the easier of the two for snowboarders. We decided to start there as we haven't been out boarding in over a year. Viewed: 1,653 times.
Now that we were back in the swing of things we decided to stick to Blackcomb Mountain. We found the runs to be a little steeper but they were still nice and wide and mostly pretty smooth. Just what us novice boarders need. Viewed: 1,752 times.
Our second day at Blackcomb was just as exciting. We decided to try to explore parts of the mountain the others haven't seen before with mixed results. We were getting very tired so most of us cut the day short. Viewed: 507 times.
This is one thing that other cities could learn from Vancouver. Stanley Park is a true oasis in the middle of the city. It's a large redwood forest with several small lakes surrounded by the bay. Within the park are several attractions including the Vancouver Aquarium and the Totem Poles. Viewed: 4,043 times.
Shots of some highlights of Vancouver not covered elsewhere. This is mostly skyline, and Chinatown. Too bad it was overcast the day I took most of these pictures. Viewed: 1,201 times.
For your convenience I put information about all the books and web sites we used to plan our travel in one place. Viewed: 446 times.

Summertime is the best time to visit Vancouver. Rollerblade around the seawall, eat all kinds of Chinese food you don't get in Chicago. Even Proto would like it!

Lily and Greg ... website looks superb. I like the real time temperature feature and the ability in which you were able to capture the beauty of Whistler/Blackcomb through your ELPH high tech camera (the same digital camera that Greg B. and your friend also had - what a coincidence). Enjoyed dinner with you and meeting the "team." Thank you to Melanie for her "local" hospitality. On short notice, she managed to reserve a table for eight in one of the best restaurants @ Whister! Kisses to Jasmine and warm pats for baby. Much love, Rhea
