Whistler Village

One thing that obviously contributes to making Whistler a great destination is the Whistler Village. It's by far the largest I've seen and very quaint. It's almost completely pedestrian only There are lots of great restaurants and shops. Especially with the US Dollar at such lows there were no bargains to be found even though it was the end of the season.

Both the Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas depart right from the village as well. Like many other ski towns there is a free shuttle service that takes you quickly between various areas. There was a bus stop right outside our hotel which allowed us to get to and from the Village without using our car our entire stay.

Marriott Residence Inn

The hotel we stayed at was the Marriott Residence Inn found just off the Merlin's run on Blackcomb. It has two things I like about a hotel room, a kitchen and complementary breakfast. The only thing that would have made it better was high speed internet access. It also has a nice pool and two hot tubs.

Besides that it was a nice place with cable TV and separate bedrooms. The best part was that our room faced the mountain so we had an awesome view of Blackcomb and part of Whistler in the background. The hotel also features an on-site ski/snowboard rental/repair shop with a ski valet. At the end of the day you drop off your skis or board where they put it on a rack for you overnight and you then just pick it back up in the morning. No need to haul your equipment up to your room every day.
