First day at Buttermilk Mountain

The weather was bright and sunny for our first day riding in the Aspen area. Our first mountain was Buttermilk. A mild name for a fairly mild mountain, apparently chosen to be a good warm-up mountain. We really liked it. The top of the mountain had very good snow all day even on the warm spring day. Only the very bottom was slushy.

We had a great time warming up on the wide well groomed slopes. There were a lot of nice runs including a black diamond that was nice and smooth and easy enough for us.

Buttermilk may have a "weak" sounding name but it is by far the most snowboard friendly of the four mountains in the Aspen area. It has several terrain parks and hosts the ESPN Winter X-Games. For us that didn't matter much and it was just a great place to get back in the swing of things. Most of us have not been on the slopes in nearly a year.
