We've been trying to get to New York for years but something would always
come up causing us to change our plans. This year we decided we couldn't
wait any longer and had to go visit. Since we were tourists we spent
all our time in Manhattan and never visited any of the other boroughs.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn near Madison Square Garden. It was centrally
located
and very close to several subway lines so we could get just about anywhere in
Manhattan easily. Plus the Empire State Building was only a few blocks away.
The best way to see the key sites in New York is to get the
New York
City Pass. It gets you passes to the biggest attractions at a
discount, but most of all you can save time by not having to stand in
line. Depending on the site you either go to the membership desk or
skip the ticket counter all together.
 Around Manhattan
We stayed at the Hampton Inn near Madison Square Garden. Most of these
pictures are of sites we saw around Manhattan that didn't warrant

 Circle Line Harbor Cruise
This was a great because it gave us a good overview of the city plus getting
to see some of the big ticket items in one shot. The kids loved it too.

 Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum
Right next to the Circle Line is a little museum of mostly planes housed
on an old aircraft carrier. I'm not
a war machine buff but I still found it entertaining.

 Central Park Zoo
The wife had to fly back to Chicago for a day so I had the kids to myself.
I chose the most kid-friendly activity I could find.

 United Nations
Along the East River is the United Nations Building. I'm glad I visited there
without the children because I found out children under the age of 5 are
not allowed on the tour.

 Empire State Building
The weatherman says rain was going to move in the next day so we ran out
to the Empire State Building a few blocks from our hotel to catch the
great views of the huge metropolis that is Manhattan. I even took a few
amazing panoramic shots of the skyline from the 86th floor observatory.

 American Museum of Natural History
We heard this was a great museum, better than the Field Museum. We didn't
get to spend much time there but our impression was that it's pretty close
in quality to the Field, but much better?

 Museum of Modern Art
Of the many art museums in Manhattan the first we visited was the
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA for short).

 Metropolitan Museum of Art
We wanted to go to the Guggenheim but we didn't know they were closed
on Thrusdays so we walked a couple blocks down the street to The Met
instead. Also a very impressive art museum.

 Guggenheim Museum
We came back to the Guggenhim the following day and fortunately it was open.
Most of the museum was dedicated to a special exhibit but there were three
rooms of very well known works as well.

 Battery Park & Statue of Liberty
On our last day we decided that despite the quickly worsening weather
we would take the ferry from Battery Park to visit the Statue of Liberty.
