Central Park Zoo

I had a day alone with the kids so I found the most kid friendly activity which was the zoo in Madagascar, the Central Park Zoo. It was easy to get to in the south east-ish corner of Central Park. It was a few blocks from the nearest subway station but once at the Park it was easy to find.

I quickly realized that besides charging for admission it's actually much smaller than the Lincoln Park Zoo back home in Chicago. It is however much better maintained and quite a bit "nicer" than our home town zoo.. I enjoyed the Rain Forest area which is an enclosed building with lots of vegetation and Rain Forest animals, mostly birds, but also bats and some tiny Deer. My girls seemed to like the Penguins the most. For days after the visit the only part they recalled was the "Penguins pooping".

The price of admission gets you into both the main zoo as well as an even smaller Children's Zoo just down the path. At the Children's Zoo there are lots of birds, another show area and two petting zoos, one with Goats and the other with Sheep. There are also things for kids to climb on and work off some of the junk food the surely had during the visit.
