Around Vail

Vail is a huge mountain and a pretty big town. The town is squeezed in between the mountain and I-70 so the town is long and narrow. Vail Village is the main "downtown" area basically in the middle of town and we stayed at the west end in an area called Lionshead.

The Lionshead area also has a small shopping mall and a large construction project with new very expensive condos and more shops. It is also where the ONLY gondola in Vail is located.

The Village is where most of the shopping and dining options are located. The only time we ate out we went to the Los Amigos restaurant with decent and resonably priced food, for Vail.

The Landmark

The Landmark Condo is located steps from the Lionshead Gondola. The condo looks older but well maintained and the units are well equipped. Our room was in the tower and had two bedrooms, one room with two twin beds and the other with a queen bed. Some in our group stayed in the townhomes which were a bit bigger but involved a lot of climbing of stairs. Best of all, FREE WiFi internet access is included. There was also a wired ethernet jack next to the phone in the kitchen.

Getting around Vail is pretty easy as there is are several local free buses that take you to various parts of Vail. Unlike other towns we've been to there is no real grocery in the touristy part of town. It was a bit of a hastle to take the bus about 3 miles each way to the Safeway at the far west part of town. The easiest way was to leave the Landmark Condos going north and cross the footbridge over I-70 to the bus stop in front of the school and catch the bus going west on the Frontage Road to the Safeway. Then we catch the eastbound bus at the stop behind the Safeway to get back to the school then cross the footbridge back to the condo.
