MAUI DIVING MAUI OCEAN CENTER IOA VALLEY HALEAKALA
MEL'S WEDDING PEARL HARBOR SURFING WAIKIKI

Since we can't dive for 24 hours after diving, we had a whole day to do whatever we wanted that didn't involve diving or going above 4000 feet. We decided to check out the Maui Ocean Center and the Ioa Valley.

The Maui Ocean Center was a fairly small aquarium, at least compared to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. What it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in quality! They have exhibits with local fish, live coral, MANY sharks, Spotted Eagle Ray, etc. They also have a large educational exhibit about Whales, but that was obviously tailored to small children.

This exhibit of a tide pool showcased the shallow water fish found in Hawaii.

No exhibit of local fish would be complete without a Humu Humu Nuku Nuku Apua'a.

You could also view the tank from inside the building.

Here is some live coral open and feeding.

This tank had several anenomes as well as dozen of baby Domino Damselfish.

This tank had a couple large Optopus.

One of the outside tanks had this juvenile Hammerhead Shark in with the Rays.

This was a small Spotted Eagle Ray, only about 4ft across.

There was also a huge 750,000 gallon tank that had about a dozen sharks in it.

The shark tank was also filled with schools of large fish.

Lily is just hanging out in the tunnel that runs through the shark tank.
