Aquarium of the Pacific

I was already in San Pedro to pick up the rental dive gear for my dive trip to Catalina the following day so I took the bridge over to Long Beach. The ride across the bridge was quite interesting. The Port of LA is HUGE!!! Not what I would call scenic but still impressive.

The Aquarium of the Pacific was ok. I really expected better displays of wildlife off the coast of California but there wasn't that much of it. I thought the Aquarium at Monterrey is far nicer.

Does every aquarium have a dolphin fountain out front?
Yes, that water does look dyed.

The first cool exhibit was of various jellyfish. Too bad my camcorder doesn't do well in low light.

I then spent some time looking at the cold water tanks. I was planning on scuba diving the following day so I wanted to get an idea of what kind of things I would see.

Bad picture of a Wolf Eel.
That's an awfully busy tank.

Great Starfish.
Lots of blue fish among the Kelp.

I don't know what most of this stuff is.
A shy Horn Shark wouldn't come out where I could get a better shot.

I think this is a deep water anemone.
One of the Sea Lions.
I think this was a Loggerhead Turtle.

A sea bird ducks into the water.
A pipefish.
Other type of Pipefish.

A dark Lionfish.
Camoflouged Frogfish.
Boxfish.

Everybody loves Sharks.
Great big Pufferfish.
A diver cleaning one of the tanks.

Tiny Seahorse.
Interesting Sea Urchin.
