The River Walk

Even more touristy than The Alamo is the San Antonio River Walk. It was built by the city on the route of the San Antonio River. The river was dammed off to make sure it was always the same depth and a nicely landscaped walk was built along about 2.5 miles of the river. Along the river are all the usual tourist attractions you see everywhere and lots of great restaurants.

As much as I normally hate sites built as tourist destinations the River Walk was quite pleasant and the restaurants we visited were very good. I started by walking across downtown to the far northern tip of the River Walk and was going to walk back along the river to my hotel. Unfortunately the north end was being renovated.

Here is the River Walk but where is the water?
Ah, that's better.
An old Terra Cotta building along the river had the facade preserved and a modern office tower built behind it.

Most of the river walk was lined with nice restaurants.

I have yet to find a tourist spot that is not spoiled by a Starbucks and Hard Rock Cafe.

These steps lead to La Villita, some local shops.

I believe this is the former public library.

During one of our walks along the River Walk we found this mosaic.

Other Stuff Around San Antonio

We did walk around the rest of San Antonio as well. Here I put some pictures of stuff that doesn't fit into any of the other categories.

Nice view of downtown San Antonio from my hotel. Viewed: 2 times.	The Spanish Governor's Palace. Viewed: 2 times.	This statue of a Spanish Conquistador was a gift from Spain.
Many consider San Fernando Cathedral the center of the city. Viewed: 7 times.	St. Joseph's was built in 1868 by German immigrants.	I ran into this Municipal Auditorium while walking around the city. Viewed: 3 times.
I don't recall the name of this tower. Viewed: 1 time.	This is the Consulate General of Mexico nearby. Viewed: 2 times.	Much of the public art in town has a military theme. Viewed: 2 times.
Another sculpture nearby. Viewed: 2 times.	Lily couldn't help but to check out the Texas fashions. Viewed: 3 times.	I had to draw the line with these ugly chairs.
	Did I mention our hotel was on E Commerce Street? Viewed: 1 time.

`your pictures are absolutely breathtaking...we were just at the riverwalk a month but it was the first time with my digital camera and the pictures were at night, i didn't do a great job. glad to see you did...good job.....`
