First Day at Canyons Resort
Our first of two days at The Canyons was warm to say the least. I think it
hit about 72 degrees in nearby Salt Lake City. It wasn't much cooler than
that on the mountain. Some people took advantage of the warm spring break
weather to dress for the occasion. The snow was ok near the top but
horrible near the
bottom.
We started the day toward the left side of the mountain where we saw a bunch
of blue runs. It took a while of going up a lift, down to one side, up
another left, down to one side. It was definitely worth it as the runs there
were really nice. After we worked our way one direction we moved towards
the other side of the mountain.
By then it was quite warm and the snow was
horrible. One Mark met up with other snowboarders to do some black diamond
runs while the rest of us tried this easy looking blue run. The girls had
some trouble on a couple steep sections. At one point they bailed and took
a green run the rest of the way down while the other Mark I worked our way
down the more challenging stuff. The worst was at the end of the day the
only way to get back from that side of the mountain was
to take this one green run towards the base. That run was more water than
snow and rocks everywhere. Yuck!

Second Day at Canyons Resort
Back for more at The Canyons. Overnight we got a few inches of snow so
we rushed back to the mountain. Once we got there is a was blizzard
conditions!! Yippie! In total it looked like around 8" of new snow.
Well, it was fun until Lily earned herself a set of crutches. She somehow
wiped out on her second run and ended up breaking one of the bones
in her ankle.
Once we got Lily on her way back to the condo to recouperate
we went back to the mountain and enjoyed
some more powder. The sun even came out for a little while before the
clouds moved back in. Once the blizzard conditions returned we decided
to call it a day and work our way down the mountain. This turned out to
be the best day of the trip so far.
