Aspen, Colorado: Trip Report
|
Current weather in Aspen, Colorado: |
We joined up again with the
Sanctuary Ski Club
for a week of skiing and riding this time in Aspen. Once
again we chose a spring trip because we just don't like the cold.
We departed out of Midway and flew to Denver. From there we had to endure a 4+ hour bus ride to Aspen, the long way. Apparently due to winter storms and the size of the bus we couldn't take the mountain pass. The bus did make a stop just west of Denver to pick up some "refreshments" for the rest of the trip.
The town of Aspen is known for it's great winter sports, quaint town, upscale
shopping and great nightlife. The nightlife we didn't experience much of
because we were on the mountain all day, then ate dinner and collapsed.

The town of Aspen is quaint and has a nice downtown with tons of upscale shopping. Our accommodations where at The Gant, a nice condo hotel very close to downtown Aspen.
First day we visited the easiest mountain for a warm-up day. It conditions were great and it was still a lot of fun. Not a big mountain but let us get back in the swing of things.
Windy, colder and mostly cloudy. I wish they groomed more of the runs. After this day we decided we could really use a lesson.
Best day of the trip so far. Fresh snow in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon. We took a lesson which helped a LOT!
A really fun day at Snowmass. It snowed most of the day so there was plenty of powder on most of the mountain. We decided to try out our new skills we learned the previous day and spent most of our time among the trees.
Yet another day at Snowmass, our current favorite mountain. It's the biggest in the area so there is plenty to do there. We spent the morning exploring powder among the trees and Lily and I practiced jumps in the afternoon.
We started the day at Buttermilk Mountain thinking we were going to take it easy our last day. We got bored and went to Ajax and we were glad we went. It was a great way to end the trip.
