American Museum of Natural History

Another museum on our New York City Pass was the American Museum of Natural History on the upper west side. Some people have told me it's better than the Field Museum back home. Once again we had to rush our visit and saw only a fraction of the museum so I can't really judge.

One thing I don't understand is why these museums insist on displaying stuffed versions of animals. My favorites are the old archeological items as well as the dinosaurs.

Lynx staling a Varying Hare.
Barasaurus defends her young.
The baby Barasaurus.

The Allosaurus is a smaller relative of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Big claws.
Sharp teeth, the better to eat the Barasaurus baby with.

Tigers in the Asian animal exhibit.
Sumatran Rhinoceros.
Huge stone head.

The Aztec stone of the sun.
Quirigua, Guatemala Stela E, largest stone quarried by the Maya.
