Third day at Beaver Creek Mountain

The third day the club recommendation was to take a $5 (each way) bus ride to Beaver Creek, about 20 minutes away. We thought it would be fun to try a different mountain so we went.

The village there is very quaint. I reminds me very much of the village in Whistler. The facilities were very nice and we got up the mountain as quickly as possible to enjoy the snow. The weather forecast called for temperatures in the 50s so we wanted to get as many runs in before it got all slushy.

The first few runs were on "corduroy" and weren't too bad. The runs at Beaver Creek are mostly big and wide and most of them were well groomed. The couple runs we got on that weren't groomed where hard and chunky so we avoided them until the warm sun softened them up a bit. A mountain photographer recommended a run called "cataract" which turned out to be our favorite. It was wide, well groomed and VERY steep. It was a lot of fun.

The other highlights were when we let "Spiderman" lead and he led us to a double black diamond run. It was pretty much as steep as "Cataract" but was covered in messy moguls. It took a while but the guys got down ok with a few nice falls here and there. Lily decided to take the human snow plow approach.

Here too we found a large bronze animal and we felt compelled to continue our little tradition. As Mark was taking the picutre a man came by and made suggestions for "alternate poses" then asked if we had ever been to Snowbasin near Utah where they have a huge bronze Moose. I guess we're not alone in abusing bronze animals.

Welcome to Beaver Creek.

Is this the creek?

Another Village picture.

And another.

I was surprised the ice rink wasn't a swimming pool.

Interesting ice sculpture. What do they say about yellow snow?

Ok, who's going to play leader today?

Rare picture of me.

Quaint sign for Tomstone Territories.

Stunning views.

Jeff, our fearless leader.

The lunch spot, Spruce Saddle.

Old tools decorated the interior.

Hey, I lost my watch again!

A Yurt next to the Spruce Saddle.

Lily shakes her fist in anger at Mark for taking us on this run.

Even "The Beav" had a hard time.

The Marks waiting for Lily to finish "grooming" the run.

Lily thanks Mark for leading us to this run with a snowball to the groin.

I relaxed by building a mini snowman.
